What's the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen?Updated 8 months ago

Most sunscreens protect skin against damage from UV-light through the use of minerals or chemical filters. These two methods work differently.

Mineral sunscreens sit on top of the skin, providing a physical barrier that provides protection through absorption and reflection of UV rays. This method has the advantage of being able to provide protection immediately upon application. The most effective and commonly used minerals are zinc oxide and titanium oxide. We use micronized and non-comedogenic zinc oxide. An additional benefit of zinc oxide is that it has been shown to possess the capacity to help encourage skin healing.

Chemical sunscreens are absorbed by the skin, and are effective once fully absorbed, so apply well before exposure to sunlight. Chemical filters act like a sponge to absorb UVA + UVB rays, converting them into infrared.
